Enquiries to Waste Services Go Unanswered [June 20th 2007]
Question to Portfolio Holder for the Environment
Due to recieving many complaints from residents about the poor service received from the Waste Services department Councillor Ernie Butler attempted to contact the Waste Services Department on their behalf. Unfortunately calls were not returned over a significant period of time and no answers were supplied to Councillor Butler with regards to a series of complaints. Councillor asked the Portfolio Holder, Councillor Jean Heywood, the following question:
"Can the portfolio holder explain why it is no longer possible for elected members to speak directly to the Waste Management Depot?"
The Leader of the Council, John Graham, responded that they were expereinceing some teething problems with their new Customer Management System, but normally enquiries direct from Council members (elected Councillors) would have a prompt response. Councillor Graham stated that the problem with responding to Councillor Butler's enquiries had been an exception.
Councillor Butler asked a furter question
"Have we or have we not got direct lines to the Waste Management otherwise how can we represent our constituents?"
Councillor Graham advised the Council that there had been some IT problems but that they had now been resolved and he was arranging for the direct telephone number to be circulated to all Councillors.
