Question to the Council
Councillor Ernie Butler, Labour Cowley Hill Ward, tabled a motion at tonight's Council meeting on the funding crisis at Brookside Boys Club. The motion read:
From Councillor Butler to the portfolio holder for Community Safety and Property, Councillor Bright:-
Because of the danger of the imminent closure of the Brookside Boys Club will the portfolio holder:
a. look at the possibility of assigning sufficient funds from the sale of the Lair covenant to ensure that the club is kept open in the short term?
b. put together a working group with Hertsmere Local Strategic Partnership to address the long term revenue and capital funding and governance of the club to ensure its long term future?
Councillor Butler added the following during the discussion on the subject
If it does not work with Hertfordshire County Council would the portfolio holder work with me and others to secure the long term future of the Club?
The Leader of the Council promised that he would meet with representatives from the Club AND County Council to ensure that the County Council met its obligations.
