Labour Group secures sanity in Studios Contract negotiations [December 1st 2005]
Studios can continue to seek work
Leon Reefe, the Labour Group leader, secured the idea that the Elstree Film and TV Studios Ltd. should be able to freely negotiate new contracts with potential clients without a massivley complex and beurocratic system.
Under the old rules the Studios would have to have waited for decisions made by the council executive, who sometimes meet only once every two months. Under the proposals suggested by the Labour Group Leader, the Council's Chief Executive along with the portfololio holder for [ccvvcvc] can respond rapidly to contract requests from the Studios.
"The situation before was really damaging the ability of the studios to attract new clients. We all recognise that the lease expires early in 2007, but the Film and TV world is highly complex but contracts need to be decided in advance."
"With my proposal being accepted, we can look forward to the studios being able to attract more work which can only be good for Elstree and Borehamwood, and the whole of Hertsmere."
This agreement allows for certain contracts to extend beyond the end of the current lease.
