Letter from Councillor Ernie Butler, Brookmeadow Ward
Dear Editor, I read with interest a news article on page 14 of last weeks Borehamwood Times. It was from Three Valleys Water urging Hertsmere residents to cut down on water consumption. The reason this article amused me is that since February this year I have had various complaints from some residents about an overflow pipe which has been leaking badly. This pipe is in a flat above a shop in Shenley Road, between the Borehamwood Retail Park and Shenley Road.
For months I have tried to get this leak stopped. I have contacted the water company, Three Valleys Water, no mean feat when you have to go through their call handling system. Hertsmere Borough Council, of which I am a member, has also contacted them.
I have spoken to the owner of the flat who promised me faithfully he would get the leak fixed. However there must be 1000's of litres of water wasted via this pipe and I bet this is not the only one.
So Mr Darby, Director of Three Valleys, please do something. Make it easier for people to report leaks rather than having to sit on the phone for ages only to be told you will look into it. Who knows, we might save some water for when we need it. Councillor Ernie Butler (Deputy Leader, Hertsmere Labour arty)
