Radlett Fire Station [July 10th 2005]

A letter from Leon Reefe

I'm sure I am not alone in being astonished by the letter in last weeks Borehamwood Times from the Conservative Leader of the County Council, Robert Ellis. It is rare to see such a piece of political cowardice committed to print.

Three weeks ago his colleague, Councillor David Lloyd, who has responsibility for fire and rescue at the County Council, was quoted as saying "I'm absolutely confident that these proposals are the right way forward for Hertfordshire. We are going to make sure we have the right people in the right place at the right time." Confidence does seem to be waning.

It is unusual that I find myself agreeing with our local MP, James Clappinson. However I hope the combined pressure from all interested parties will make sure that these ridiculous proposals are withdrawn at the earliest opportunity.

Leon Reefe, Labour Group Leader, Hertsmere Borough Council
