Local Elections, 1st May 2008
A time for change and a time for action
The Conservatives have run the Borough and County Councils for the past 9 years. All the problems we as residents experience with local services are due directly to the policies they have implemented during that time.
The Conservatives have been wasteful in spending (more than £1 million overspent on Bin Collections in the past 2 years), slow in action and unwilling to take responsibility for their mistakes, but more than willing to blame each other or the Government for their own failings.
Our local council is still failing our residents. Even after eight straight years of above inflation increases in Council tax they still can’t get the basic things right, like bin collections and parking. Whilst our council promises much they fail to deliver the services already paid for by residents.
At a time when Council reserves are at their highest ever, over £17 million of your money in the bank, our towns are crying out for more youth clubs and activities, more services for the elderly and ensuring that our neighbourhoods are safe.
Projects like the Borehamwood's community theatre or New Village Hall are late or on indefinite hold. Roads and pavements across the whole borough are falling into disrepeair despite £10s of millions of direct grants from the Government.

David Bearfield |
|
Bushey Heath Ward |
|
David has lived in Bushey for many years and is an Area Sales Manager of a Chemical Company and is married with a grown up son. He has stood for election before and is very concerned about the environment and the state of our roads and pavements. "I've lost count of the number of potholes I drive over every day in Bushey. The state of our roads is a disgrace. I'm also concerned about the amount of plastic recycling that blows about our streets as the black boxes have no lids. The people of Bushey deserve better than this." |

Yue Ting Cheng |
|
Bushey St James Ward |
|
Yue Ting has lived in Bushey for several years and after graduating has done a variety of jobs including working for the MP for Brent South and for Bill Rammell Minister for Higher Education. He is very concerned about the lack of youth facilities in Bushey and Hertsmere generally. "There is nothing for young people to do in Bushey so it's no wonder they congregate in the parks and other places. We need more facilities for young people so that they can spend their time enjoying themselves without annoying other members of the community. Many adults see young people as a threat but really they are just looking for something to do and somewhere to do it." |

Jim Sowerbutts |
|
Bushey North Ward |
|
Jim has lived in Bushey for over 30 years. He is married with 4 children, all educated locally, and has been a teacher at a North London School for over 35 years. Jim is Chair of Govenors of Queens' School in Bushey and was previously a Governor at Bushey Manor School.
"Obviously good local education is one of my key concerns however I know local residents are getting poor service and value for money from our local Council. The Conservatives have been running our Council for too long and their performance drops each year. I will ensure our Council takes proper responsibility for good local services." |
