Parking Proposals in Hertsmere - The Labour Group's view [July 4th 2005]
In view of the fractious comments by some councillors, we thought it would helpful if we, once again, put forward the view of the Labour Group in Hertsmere on this issue.
The facts are that there is little or no enforcement of current parking restrictions across the borough of Hertsmere. There is a lack of car parking spaces in some areas, mainly caused by all day commuters parking in the wrong places, and the current parking infrastructure needs to be maintained. Reinstall Ban On UK Zimbabwean Expulsions - MEP
Following this morning's (Saturday's) reports of cabinet disagreement on the expulsion of asylum seekers from the U.K. to Zimbabwe, Labour's European Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Human Rights, who has up to 20 Zimbabweans on hunger strike at Yarl's Wood Detention Centre, Bedfordshire, in his constituency, has called on the Government to reinstall the ban on expulsions lifted last Nove .... more here
Conservatives in Hertsmere consider the elderly a low priority [June 7th 2005]
Leon Reefe, the Labour Group Leader in Hertsmere, twice asked the Conservative led Borough Council to make the provision of services and
facilities to the elderly a higher priority. Twice the Conservative group has declined.
Every council is required by law to publish a "Best Value Performance Plan" which enables them, and the community it serves, to monitor the
quality of services provided by the Council and allowing comparisons with local and national targets. This is a basic statement about what the Council will do, and how well it does it.

Hedge wars - what price justice? [June 1st 2005]
£400, if the Conservative group of Hertsmere Council has its way.
From the 1st June 2005 Councils have the power to intervene in disputes between neighbours over high hedges. The bill, originally opposed by Tory MPs, allowed Councils to charge a reasonable fee for this service if they thought it was appropriate. This was to deter frivolous claims and protect Council finances.
However the Tories in Hertsmere have decided to charge a minimum of £400 for each case. Th .... more here
