Plastic Bags Campaign - letter to the local press
Last week, on behalf of Labour councillors, I proposed a motion to Hertsmere Borough Council to restrict the use of plastic bags. It has been estimated an average of 300 plastic bags are used by every man, woman and child every year.
With 93,000 residents in Hertsmere, that is an awful lot of plastic going into landfill each year. Each bag takes between 400 and 1,000 years to break down, and many of them en .... more here
Local Representatives at the Labour Party Conference [October 4th 2007]
Labour Borough Councillors Ann Harrison, Di Hoeksma and Ernie Butler travelled to the Labour party Conference in Bournmouth last week. Councillor Ernie Butler was elected as the local Labour Party's delegate so was tasked with representing the views of local Labour Party members at the many debates held during the four day conference. Many thanks for printing our letter in the Borehamwood & Elstree Times about the redundancies of the staff in the Community Shop in Leeming Road.
We had a tremendous response to our petition at Families Day, and residents were extremely concerned to make every attempt to keep the facility open as a first port of call for help, or as an information centre.

Thank you for the excellent editorial in last week's Borehamwood & Elstree Times. The Labour Party members on Hertsmere borough and town councils couldn't agree more.
The Community Shop has been an extremely valuable resource for many people in Borehamwood.
