Here are a selection of the questions that have been sent in.

question
why are you standing as a candidate
Mark from Borehamwood Brookmeadow
answer
I believe three of the major priorities for Hertsmere are a strong and stable economy, continued investment in public services and a better life with more opportunity for all Hertsmere families
question
As a pensioner why can't I use the buses for free?
Margaret from Potters Bar Parkfield
answer
Soon, any pensioner will get to travel free, thanks to the measures announced in Gordon Brown's budget. The reason you can't travel free now is because the tory controlled Hertsmere council blocked the Labour councilors efforts to give you free travel now
question
Do you support the AUT boycott of some Israeli academic institutions as a means of putting pressure on Israel to amend its policies towards Palestinians? If elected, what if anything do you think should be done to increase pressure on Israel to make concessions to the Palestinians?
Charles Sigler from Shenley
answer

I am concerned that the boycott is leading to the discrimination of Israeli students and academics.

If elected I would support the governments actions of leading the way on the Road Map for Peace and for the UK government to continue to put international pressure in terms of the Israeli government's decision to withdraw from Gaza and some West Bank settlements. In March this year the Prime Minister hosted a conference attended by President Abbas, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan which agreed a series of practical steps necessary to the establishment of an independent, viable Palestinian state. In addition, the international community gave a commitment to support the new Palestinian leadership as they move to build their capacity and capability.

We continue to believe the Roadmap offers the best chance of a lasting settlement in the region and we will provide whatever assistance we can to ensure it is implemented.I would press for the Labour government to work with the international community to bring peace and stability in the region based on the twin principles of a viable Palestinian state and an Israel secure within its borders.
